Your First Session

Initial sessions are used to clearly define what’s been happening in your life that led you to picking up the phone and making the first call.  It allows time for you to get to know me, as a therapist, and me to get to know you.  I also gather some information about your history but, later sessions, primarily focus on the “here and now”.  I view the professional counseling relationship as a team, initially focused on answering one simple question: “What would it look like if your situation were to improve tomorrow?”.  For many, working toward actualizing this answer requires them to give up long standing self-defeating behaviors that bind them in unhealthy patterns or relationships.  This basic process seems very simple … too simple; however, it’s difficult for many.

My clients have taught me repeatedly that they have such great emotional and psychological strength that has remained inaccessible because of unhealthy patterns of living.  Clients report that this therapeutic process opens the doorway to actualizing this dormant inner strength to “work through” life’s challenges and actualizing a better life.

Welcome to Capital Counseling Services, LLC!

Capital Counseling Services, LLC (CCS) provides psycho-therapeutic treatment based on an eclectic approach combining traditional (Cognitive-Behavioral, Humanistic) and contemporary (Mindfulness & Meditation) theories and practice that are congruent with established clinical best practices designed to alleviate and prevent stress and enhance introspection.  Clients report this introspection and other elements of the counseling process lead to the permanent resolution of inter- and intra-personal conflicts.  CCS is located at 1600 Wilson Blvd., Suite 702, Arlington, VA 22209 and can be contacted via cell phone (571-344-5926).

Sessions are based on openness, trust, respect and the understanding that the client, with guidance, is the expert in resolving his/her challenges.

Areas of clinical expertise include sex therapy; men’s mental health (depression, traumatic stress, sexual abuse, self-esteem); sexual orientation/identity and expression in its various forms (i.e. different loving, non-traditional relationships); and the complex interplay of mental health on medical diagnosis (i.e. diabetes, hypertension, etc.)
